Many researchers believe that the Egyptians knew the aeronautics secrets and could fly but later the secrets were lost.
Egyptian Airplane
In 1898, a 6 inch model of what looks like a glider was found in the tomb at Saqquara. It has been exhibited in a museum in Cario. Was it just a toy or a scale down version of the real aircraft?
Carvings at Abydos
At Abydos, ancient temple built by Seti I and his son Ramses II, there were curious carvings on the stone slabs. They seemed to be the images of aircrafts.
Below are the self explanatory images from the temple wall.

Plane?
Central and South American Shuttle
Models of airplane made in gold were found in the Central and South America. These date back to 500 AD.
From our scriptures
Haven’t we all heard stories from our epics where the Gods and Demigods traveled in Vimanas. Ravana carried away Sita to Lanka in a Vimana, Remember!! Our ancient scriptures describe this aircrafts in depth to the very last technical detail. In “Vaimanika Shastra” (Aeronautical Science), talks about different flying machines and describes in depth the technical details of constructing and flying an airplane.

Can't really verify if Ravana abducted sita in his pushpaka vimana :) or not.... but I promise to get you the pictures from the tomb in saqquara or probably from the museum in Cairo when I visit the country
fantasy/fiction in those times is one thing, and real-working models is another.. I was abt to point to Ravana's private jet, but they were all just ideas (as in imagination)..
though could be wrong..
PS: Superman and some other Japanese/Chinese mythological character is "said" to be inspired from Hanuman
Never seen and heard of that in Egypt and I visited almost all sites must have been sleeping (lol). Anyway I prefer to take today's airplanes ...
nice one. i also thought of the pushpak viman & other indian myth stories which always talks of air travel. I am sure some technology existed as that's how the mytho stories came into being...
Looking forward to hear more about the GDC day.
I did a bit of research on Google, but could not find any sites that refuted it. Anyhow, here is another site to add to the mystery:

Hmm...interesting. Coincidentally just yesterday I was watching a TV show on the first flight. Ofcourse they were talking abt the Wright brothers' flight. They had interesting things to say..like the first flight lasted for 12 seconds and flew just 120 feet :D
You beat that with this story :)
Casy: Me waiting for ur visit to Egypt. Pls get me all the pictures.
Pavan:I am (not) sure they existed. I had read an article that kurukshetra battle field had reamains of nuclear weapons.. :-)...
Gattina:Wow!! you have been to egypt.. too cul!!
itchingtowrite: I agree with u... I am sure there must have been something exisiting, from which they cud write stories
Hardu: surely will put up on the GDC day.. :-)
Ashish: Thanks for visiting my blog and your comments. I did go into many websites.. but they all said the same. Keep coming !!
Enigma: I know I m the best .. :-p
Interesting Info...
I always thought that the World is asking for scientific proof with regards to advanced ancient technology. IMHO, my research furnishes a fair amount of such proof. Yet, the world is not interested. Particularly the case of the Abydos Helicopter stands out for its clear cut character. It is a geometrical puzzle, which when unravelled forces certain conclusions. Unless, one prefers the head stuck in a sand pile.
Ravana's Pushpak Viman must be using Earth's magnetic field or other planets tidal force to fly in the air, i think we still unaware with that technology.
Ok, so what if there been planes and helos at the ancient egypt? what does it takes? what do we have from it? we do have planes too, and they weren't an heritage from ancient civilizations, in a matter of facts, history remains the same :(
